Healthy Head is a Happy Head

Hair Happy
A lot of people use so many hair products and straighteners, curling irons, etc. on their head every single day and then they wonder why their hair is thin, falls out, or isn't shiny and healthy. If you want a healthy head, you have to take care of it, you need to take steps to keep your hair clean, healthy, shiny, and beautiful. I have been doing my own hair since I was about 13 and I have learned a lot through trial and error.
Here are some steps to help your hair become healthy and strong:
1.) Heat everyday=BAD.
In cheerleading, I remember a girl who straightened her hair religiously every single day she got up and did anything, which was every day. She started losing her hair and it started breaking around her scalp. Her hair was already thin, and then she made it worse. Your hair will start to weaken and burn if you are not careful. There are products out there for those of you who still want to use your heat items on your head if you must. These products can help shield your hair from the horrible damage that heat can cause. If your hair does not break, it will probably become frizzy or something. Heat does no good. Yeah, it makes your hair look good at first, but God gave you the hair type you have for a reason. It's okay if you want to straighten your naturally curly hair once in a while, but everyday is not good.
2.) Washing your hair EVERYDAY-good or bad?
I used to think 'OMG I have oily hair if I don't wash it everyday'. Once I got a job, went to college, and got my own place, I realized that 'hey, I had trained my hair to be like that'. Once I got so busy that I only washed my hair about once every other day, my hair texture changed. It become stronger, healthier, and it had more volume. I used to shampoo and condition every single day. This is bad. You are stripping your hair of vitamins and nutrients your hair needs. Also, conditioning maybe once or twice a week is better, too.
3.) Lather, rinse, repeat? Or condition?
With my own experiments, washing my hair TWICE made my head look more like a damn clown then anything. It stripped my hair and made my texture go crazy. In my own experiences, I say no, don't do it. Don't condition every single time you wash, either. And when you do condition, I suggest getting the conditioner for color treated hair, even if you do not have color treated hair. Why? Because these products are made to protect your hair from damage, color treated or not, it has great ingredients to promote healthy hair.
4.) Colors of the rainbow
As a woman, we like to spice things up, have change here and there. Most women color their hair. It is said that this is the worst damage you can do to your hair. If you are not coloring your hair every other week or anything, no, it is not so bad. I suggest not bleaching it or anything once a month, your hair WILL fall out if you bleach your hair too much. Bleaching is the worst thing when it comes to changing your hair color. Stick to colors closer to your natural one so that you don't have to do extreme things like that.
5.) Hairsprayyyy
Not only does hairspray usually stink, sting your eyeballs, and pollute if you do not use the right cans, but if you put too many products on your head day after day, your hair will get weighed down and this is a bad thing. Use the least amount of products you can. Do not get 'spray crazy' and start using the whole can on your head. This is ridiculous and your hair wants to breathe, too. You can leave the bathroom to a cleaner room, but your head now has to breathe that spray for the rest of the day until you wash it out. Not the best idea in the world.
I hope this helps some women learn about hair health and realize that if they really want 'salon type hair', then it is not in the products they use like the commercials say, but it is listening and observing to your own body. Your body will tell you if it likes something or not. If your hair does not like something that you are doing, the texture will be wrong and you will see it. Take care of your head.
