Fading Hair Color Tips

Keeping the color rich, and keep your hair healthy
I have been coloring my hair since I can remember really. But I want to get back to my roots. I was born a redhead, and after being brunette, blonde, white, even teal, blue, black, purple and orange, I am liking the red again. Which is a pain. Red is known for fading the quickest. But I have been dying my hair red for over two and a half years. Why is it fading now?
After moving a few times, I found out the water I take a shower in may be a factor in the fading. Literally in a week, my deep red will become a strawberry blonde. I have never had a problem like this before. I ended up doing research and got a water filter for the shower head. Not only is this good for your hair, but also great for your skin. The one I got is great also because there are so many settings for water power and the way it comes out. I love the water fall and the sprinkling settings myself.
Not only do I shower with the filter, but I also found out washing and conditioning your hair in cold water can make hair not only silkier and healthier looking, but it can close the follicles, helping your hair not fade as fast. Yes, your body will hate you are you shower in cold water, but after a few days, you will figure out a routine. I first started throwing my hair over and washing it with my head upside down. I got annoyed with that after a while and started putting the shower head as close to the wall as possible and I lean backwards into the cold water (gives your abs a work out, too. YAY!) and wash and rinse that way. After a few minutes though, your body should get used to the water. Then I change the water to my usual hot and I do my other shower routines.
I have also figured out that if you buy two boxes of your hair color (this is also this good for those with longer hair to ensure you get all of your hair, every last strand) you can add some already mixed up to a bottle of conditioner for color treated hair and use it every so often to give your color some added richness in between your color treatments.
Always pay attention to your hair. If you don't have to wash it every single day, don't. On the days I don't go to the gym and sweat a few gallons, I usually just put conditioner in, no shampoo. Conditioner does have some of the things shampoo does, plus nutrients and then some, so it's not such a big deal if you skip the shampoo regime every so often and just repeat a day of conditioning.
Of course, as most know, don't try coloring your hair every two weeks. Space it out to about every 4-6 weeks. Preferably 6. Especially if you have the tinted conditioner you are using as well. If you are careful and know what you are doing, you can safely color your hair without damaging it.
